1. Where is the Tribal Employment Office located?

Our office is located at 810 Acquoni Road in the Ginger Lynn Welch Complex Human Resources Suite 160 here in Cherokee, NC.

2.      What are the Employment Departments hours of operation?

The Employment Department is open Monday –Friday 7:45am-4:30pm with the exception of Tribal Holidays (view employment calendar).

3. How can I apply for open Tribal positions?

Applications can be picked up at the Human Resources office or you can view our application page to down load your application. All applications must be submitted to the Human Resources office on the date that the position is schedule to close no exceptions.

4. Does a separate application need to be submitted for each position the tribe advertises?

Yes, the application must be specific for the job in which you are applying for. Plus, the credentials you are submitting for each respective application.

5. The application requires a notarized signature from a North Carolina Certified Public Notary are there Notaries available at the Employment Office?

Yes, we have NC Certified Public Notaries in our office and we can notarize the application or you can have notarized prior to mailing in or submitting.

6. How do I claim Indian preference?

To claim Indian preference you must either present a Tribal enrollment card or an affidavit from the Tribal Enrollment Office along with another form of identification i.e. drivers license, social security card etc… To claim as spouse or parent (Tier II) you must submit marriage certificate in addition to above mentioned documents.

7. Do I have to possess a valid North Carolina Drivers License in order to obtain Employment with the Tribe?

Not necessarily some positions do not require a driver’s license. Please review current job descriptions for all that apply. Additionally, certain positions require commercial drivers license as mandated in those job descriptions.

8. How do I claim Veteran’s preference?

In order to claim Veterans preference you must provided a DD-214 document stating that you have been honorable discharged. No, documentation proof equals no Veteran’s preference.

9. Will a Tribal member have preference over a non-enrolled Tribal member?

Yes, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians enforces Employment laws in which EBCI Tribal Members are given first priority if minimally qualified over a non-enrolled member.

10. My projected graduation date will occur in May and it is now only March can I apply for a position that requires a degree?

Yes, the Tribe honors a condition of employment which will allow you to obtain your degree as a condition of your employment provided you meet all other requirements, qualifications, etc…
