Kim Peone serves as the Chief Finance Officer for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, in Cherokee, North Carolina. Kim grew up in Cherokee, NC then moved to the Pacific Northwest twenty-five years ago where she served several tribes and tribal organizations. Kim worked for the Spokane Tribe of Indians in the early 1990’s as Administrative Director and later as General Manager for one of the tribal enterprises. She also worked for the Kalispel Tribe of Indians as a Business Manager for the Camas Institute. At the Camas Institute she initiated program and organizational development while supporting the organization financially.
Kim is a strong leader as she serves the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in management. Despite the challenges our nation faces in the current economic times, she has embraced the challenges as an opportunity to initiate change. Her efforts have been innovative and creative while advocating accountability, transparency and responsibility to the leadership and the community they serve.
As Deputy Finance Officer (CFO) for the Eastern Band of Cherokee (EBCI), Kim is responsible for a budget in excess of $300M and acts as the Chairman of the Tribe’s Investment Committee, whose trust funds are in excess of $600M. During this last year, Kim has spent much of her time adopting new processes to improve the efficiencies of the tribal government by changing accounting practices and processes. She also works with her staff to collaborate and support programs in an effort to provide better services, decreasing waste and explore ways to increase efficiencies. She also works to promote the tribe’s marketing and promotions which bolsters the tourism economy of the region. Kim’s accomplishments have set in motion change for the Eastern Band of Cherokee, her hope is continue in this momentum to better serve the membership of Eastern Band of Cherokee in positive and effective manner while maintaining fiscal accountability and prosperity.
