Drug Enforcement Unit

Three Detectives work on various narcotics cases. All are currently assigned the Western North Carolina Drug Enforcement Unit (WNCDEU). The WNCDEU is made up of the Cherokee Indian Police Department, Swain Co. Sheriff Department, Jackson Co. Sheriff Department, Cherokee Co. Sheriff Department, Graham Co. Sheriff Department, and the National Park Service.

The drug task force works closely with the DEA drug task force in Western North Carolina that has contributing members from local, state, and federal agencies including the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). Not only does the drug task force work on local possession, sales, and trafficking cases, the task force works on larger Federal conspiracy and drug-trafficking cases that occur in Western North Carolina.
