Welcome to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Nation web site. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Nation is one of the only three
federally recognized Cherokee tribes in the United States.
The EBCN is located in Cherokee, NC.
There are about 13,400 Eastern Band of Cherokee members, most of whom live on the Reservation. Properly called the Qualla Boundary,
the Reservation is slightly more than 56,000 acres held in trust by the federal government specifically for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
Work Proceeds on Planned Sequoyah National Golf Course
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians tribal council recently approved the construction of an 18-hole resort golf facility on tribally owned property that is in close proximity to the existing Harrah’s Cherokee Hotel & Casino. The golf course will be a high-end daily fee course open to the public, including local residents, Great Smoky Mountain visitors, and guests of the Harrah’s Cherokee Hotel & Casino. You can view the fact sheet HERE.
Tribe Begins Enforcing New Sign Ordinance

Tribal Council Approves WalMart
The Eastern Band of Cherokees has completed negotiations to bring a WalMart Super Center store to Cherokee. The site is above downtown on the hillside by the Cherokee Indian Hospital. The store is expected to boots tribal levy collections by over $1 million. Negotiations to bring the store onto the reservation began after talks with surrounding counties to locate the store near Cherokee failed to reach a satisfactory conclusion. Site preparation has already begun.
